Security Officer Job Description
Under the direction of the Facility Services Manager, the Security Officer patrols various areas of the hospital’s buildings and grounds to protect CMH property from theft or vandalism. The officer assists in controlling visitors and patients as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time work experience.
- Previous security experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license required.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol all areas inside and outside the hospital, checking and recording the status of doors, and notifying appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Complete evening lockdown and morning unlock procedures for designated doors.
- Patrol parking lots and enforce hospital parking regulations.
- Maintain a written log of all actions taken during shifts.
- Investigate and document suspicious activities.
- Perform monthly fire drills and inspect fire extinguishers.
- Conduct monthly panic alarm tests and inspections.
- Respond to maintenance requests and perform routine maintenance or coordinate with on-call facility staff.
- Document work orders via the FM Works system.
- Perform monthly fireman’s recall tests on elevators.
- Set up and maintain a secure helicopter landing zone during arrivals and departures.
- Assist with wayfinding and controlling access for patients, guests, and visitors.
- Observe and question unauthorized personnel on hospital property.
- Escort and grant access to restricted areas upon request, and contact law enforcement when necessary.
- Secure and document patient valuables.
- Ensure walkways are clear of hazards and snow/ice, applying ice melt as needed.
- Coordinate with on-call personnel during snow events.
- Participate in department trainings and complete all required education.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff through patrols and monitoring.
- Respond to and assist with unruly, violent, intoxicated, or mentally ill individuals.
- Observe and report safety and security issues.
