Job description

Summary

The Security Guard II is a position within the security and protective service field. Guards in this classification generally provide security services under limited supervision from a Lead Security Guard.

The Security Guard II can perform fixed-post, mobile, or foot patrols while maintaining situational awareness and making decisions or taking actions consistent with established post orders, facility rules, guidelines, and protocols. Duties may include working in austere and uncomfortable conditions for prolonged periods, including inclement weather, while performing walking, standing, searching, surveillance, or sitting duties essential to security functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Keeping supervisors informed of unusual occurrences and important events as per post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Monitoring alarms, radio traffic, and other information sources; dispatching or informing others as needed.
  • Reporting and addressing fire alarms, burglar alarms, requests for assistance, criminal acts, vandalism, theft, illegal entry, suspicious behavior, violence, threats, vehicle violations, drug use, or inappropriate use of property.
  • Screening and inspecting vehicles and pedestrians entering or exiting the facility.
  • Preventing prohibited articles from entering or leaving the facility.
  • Escorting individuals or vehicles as directed.
  • Using communication devices appropriately.
  • Monitoring all equipment and reporting damages or losses immediately.
  • Logging property pass numbers for authorized movements.
  • Ensuring security of government property, detaining personnel, and reporting unauthorized removal.
  • Conducting regular patrols and inspections.
  • Issuing vehicle passes and monitoring access control systems.
  • Monitoring RFID systems and responding to alarms.
  • Granting access during non-working hours to authorized personnel.
  • Monitoring facility equipment and utility systems and reporting deficiencies.
  • Performing surveillance for unauthorized activity or breaches.
  • Providing additional security support for events or emergencies.
  • Maintaining logs and administrative documents.
  • Cooperating with law enforcement, locating and protecting evidence, and testifying as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Access to government facilities is mandatory. Denial or revocation of access may result in termination if minimum qualifications cannot be met.

Supervision

This position operates within established guidelines. Deviations must be approved or immediately reported to a supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience:
    1. At least 2 years of security or law enforcement experience or equivalent military experience.
    2. One year demonstrating ability to follow directions, meet attendance, and complete necessary training for state certification.
  3. State Armed Security Guard license required.
  4. Valid driver's license required.
  5. Fluency in English, speaking and writing.
  6. Must pass criminal background, drug test, and physical exam.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. First Aid/CPR certification.
  2. Experience with Glock and AR 15 platforms.
  3. Basic computer skills.

Physical Demands
