Job Duties
- Patrol all areas of the Medical Center, including stairwells and restricted areas, to prevent and detect fires, thefts, vandalism, and other security issues.
- Act as liaison between patients, visitors, and the Medical Center, explaining policies and services to visitors and families.
- Provide reports on patient and visitor issues to administration; investigate and direct inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Assist in referring patients and visitors to appropriate services; respond personally when needed.
- Detect violations of law, contact law enforcement, and represent the Medical Center in court proceedings if necessary.
- Prepare incident reports and conduct investigations as required.
- Handle disruptive individuals and participate in restraining emotionally disturbed patients when summoned by medical staff.
- Manage parking, including directing cars, re-parking double-parked vehicles, and reporting violations.
- Perform dispatching duties, including answering phones, entering data, monitoring surveillance systems, and emergency alarms.
- Serve as switchboard operator during midnight shift (12am-8am).
- Log daily receipts and maintain departmental reports.
- Provide excellent customer service with professionalism, patience, and helpfulness.
- Adhere to departmental policies, safety, infection control, and ethical standards.
- Assess and improve policies and procedures; understand and follow the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and core values.
Other Duties
- Undertake driving assignments as needed.
- Participate in meetings, training, and workshops.
- Maintain department equipment.
- Escort employees and perform related tasks to support department operations.
Position Qualifications
- Pass security guard test and/or approved training through Bergen County Police & Fire Academy.
- Ability to drive standard shift cars.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in English; second language preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Physical Demands
Contact with hospital community, responding to calls, enforcing rules, and physical restraint when necessary. Prolonged standing, walking, and climbing stairs are expected.

Qualifications Summary
