Job Duties
  • Patrol all areas of the Medical Center, including stairwells and restricted areas, to prevent and detect fires, thefts, vandalism, and other security issues.
  • Act as liaison between patients, visitors, and staff, explaining policies and procedures to visitors and families.
  • Report patient and visitor issues to administration, investigate incidents, and refer inquiries appropriately.
  • Detect violations of law, contact law enforcement when necessary, and participate in legal proceedings as a witness or complainant.
  • Prepare incident reports and conduct investigations when needed.
  • Assist with managing disruptive or emotionally disturbed individuals, including restraining when necessary.
  • Manage parking operations, including directing vehicles, reporting violations, and handling abandoned vehicles.
  • Perform dispatching duties, including answering phones, monitoring surveillance systems, and managing emergency alarms.
  • Serve as switchboard operator during overnight shifts.
  • Maintain logs of receipts and other reports as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating respect, professionalism, patience, and helpfulness.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, safety standards, and the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Understand and promote the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Other Duties
  • Undertake driving assignments as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Maintain department equipment and records.
  • Escort employees as required.
  • Support professional growth through education and training.
  • Perform additional duties to support departmental objectives.
Position Qualifications
  • Pass security guard test and/or approved training through Bergen County Police & Fire Academy.
  • Ability to operate standard shift vehicles.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English; second language is a plus.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Job Setting/Physical Demands

Interaction with patients, visitors, and staff across hospital areas. Must be able to respond to unpredictable conditions, including climbing stairs, lifting over 40 lbs, prolonged standing and walking, and using physical force when necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience within the posted range. Includes differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and additional certifications.

Qualifications Summary

Required: High School diploma, valid Driver’s License, security guard certification or training.

Preferred: Security guard experience.
