Job Summary

The position of Security Guard is responsible for all aspects of security and safety within the hospital. Performs various duties and rounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry, ensuring the safety of employees, patients, visitors, and physicians. Contributes actively to operations and communication, behaving in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, and upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) in patient communication.

Essential Functions
  • Performs daily duties to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Conducts building and ground patrols to ensure hospital safety.
  • Investigates thefts, disturbances, and suspicious activities.
  • Controls facility access, including identifying individuals, managing access to sensitive areas, and operating anti-theft alarm systems. Reports crimes and communicates with law enforcement.
  • Assists staff with patient interventions, including those involving 5150 holds, by visitors or staff.
  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and professionally with coworkers, patients, and visitors.
  • Uses AIDET principles in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Acts with urgency when performing tasks.
  • Maintains departmental organization and reports equipment or environmental issues for repair.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations.
  • Raises safety concerns and escalates potential safety events when necessary.
  • Completes monthly training sessions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Attends staff meetings, follows HIPAA and patient rights policies, complies with the compliance program, and demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures and safety programs.
Experience
  • Requires critical thinking, service excellence, interpersonal skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, organizational skills, and PC proficiency. Six months to one year of experience in an acute hospital setting as a security guard is preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
  • Current Guard Card, BLS from AHA, CPI (AB508), Workplace Violence Prevention and De-escalation (AB508) certification, or other equivalent certifications.
Additional Requirements

The new hire must complete AB508 Workplace Violence Prevention and De-Escalation training within 7 days of hire if not already certified.
