The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re‑route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. Provide professional public safety support to ensure the safety and security of the North Carolina State Governmental complex, including monitoring facilities, controlling access points, and responding to incidents. Conduct routine patrols, enforce regulation, and assist employees and visitors while maintaining a visible security presence. Support emergency response operations and collaborate with law enforcement to protect state property and the public.
Grade NC01 Recruitment Salary Range: $31,200 - $46,502

Monitor and control access to State Government buildings by screening visitors, issuing credentials, and enforcing security procedures. Conduct regular foot and patrols of buildings and surrounding grounds to deter, detect, and report suspicious activity or safety hazards. Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents; take appropriate action to stabilize situations and notify supervisors or law enforcement as needed. Provide customer service by assisting employees, officials, and visitors with directions, information, and general inquiries while maintaining a professional presence. Prepare accurate reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation. Operate security equipment such as surveillance cameras, radios, and access control systems. Enforce state rules, policies, and applicable laws to maintain order and protect state property.
