Job summary

Maricopa Unified School District #20’s Maricopa High School is seeking a Security Guard to support campus safety during the school day and events. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and salary follows the Approved Classified Compensation Plan with a starting wage of $18.30 per hour.

Responsibilities include patrolling buildings and grounds, enforcing school policies, coordinating with law enforcement as needed, documenting incidents, and assisting in emergency procedures to protect students

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years work experience in security or related field.
• Must meet Arizona DHS safety and health requirements, including proof of Measles and Rubella immunity.
• IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Security Guard

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

SALARY: Approved Classified Compensation Plan

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide general support for campus security related tasks; to patrol buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry; and to assist in the assurance of student safety on campus and during the school day and during special district activities.

Principal Duties (Essential Functions)

• Assist with student safety needs by regulating appropriate behavior and enforcing school policies.
• May be asked to monitor in-school suspension.
• Patrol and inspect doors, windows, gates, school grounds, cars and parking lots.
• Confront unauthorized persons and question them. Call police for assistance according to emergency action plan.
• Prepare reports including documentation for emergencies, vandalism, disturbances, and names of individuals entering in the evening.
• Update travel and maintenance logs for security vehicles, if appropriate.
• Respond to calls for services or emergencies including but not limited to student incidents, burglar alarms, fire alarms and calls regarding conspicuous persons.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Knowledge of federal, state, and city laws, rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
• Skill working with law enforcement and school administration.
• Skill training security guards and other personnel on best practices for safety and security.
• Skill patrolling and monitoring physical areas and people.
• Skill assuring safety at activities.
• Skill communicating orally and in writing.
• Skill performing first aid.
• Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years work experience in security or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill.
• Must meet Arizona Department of Health Services safety and health requirements, including proof of immunity from Measles and Rubella.
• IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Physical Requirements

Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hearing or listening within normal range, and speaking and giving directions clearly. Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds), carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 125 lbs.

Required License/Certification

• Arizona driver’s license and ability to obtain First Aid.
• CPR certification within 60 days of employment.
