Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a full-time security position to help maintain a safe, orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. You will gather information to resolve security issues, convey information in writing, and direct security monitors assigned to the site.

Responsibilities include enforcing regulations, reporting to authorities, supporting administrators, and coordinating with local law enforcement.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred coursework in criminal justice or related field.
  • Ability to pass agility test and security training.

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

Job Summary

To assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff, and visitors; to gather information to resolve security issues and determine appropriate response; to convey information and provide written support; to direct, manage and guide security monitors assigned to site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and guide security monitors assigned to site
  • Assist administrators in the enforcement of all school district regulations and state laws and report infractions of such rules to the appropriate authorities
  • Serve as witness in a disciplinary due process hearing or court case as required
  • Submit oral and written reports to school/district as required
  • Maintain vigilance and assist in crime prevention on campuses and sites
  • Identify students and non-students who are in violation of school rules or state laws and report to the appropriate authorities
  • Ensure all security team members are adhering to all district policies, guidelines, protocols, and standard operation procedures
  • Assist Security Attendance Specialist with truant students
  • Assist bus driver with bus security and discipline problems on campusCoordinate with site administrators on daily security needs, special events (sports games, dances, graduation), and after-hours activities. Assist with extracurricular events as needed.
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration or District Security Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
  • College classes in criminal justice or related field
  • Knowledge of Arizona laws pertaining to schools, youth, and school attendance
  • Experience working with youth and public
  • Experience in law enforcement or school security

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work both indoors (classrooms, hallways, offices) and outdoors (school grounds, access gates, parking lots) regardless of weather.
  • Interactions with students, staff, parents, and occasionally law enforcement
  • May be required to respond quickly to emergencies or behavioral incidents
  • Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, staff, students, and local law enforcement
  • High-stress situations: Must be calm under pressure, especially during incidents involving violence, confrontations, threats, or medical emergencies
  • May include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends for events
  • Frequent walking, standing, and patrolling for extended periods
  • May need to intervene in physical altercations or restrain individuals if necessary
  • Must occasionally lift or move items up to 50 lbs (e.g., barriers, equipment, or students in emergencies)
