Job summary

Homewood Ravensview is hiring Casual Security Guards for 24/7 coverage at our private 75-bed mental health, trauma and addiction facility in North Saanich, BC. The role focuses on ensuring safety for staff, patients, and visitors, with opportunities to develop expertise in mental health care.

You will patrol, respond to emergencies, and maintain accurate reports, while working day, evening, and night shifts. Prior experience in hospitals and CPR/First Aid certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Fully licensed Security Guard in BC (renewed every three years).
  • 6 months of security, police, fire or related experience.
  • Ability to work day, evening and night shifts.
  • Hospital setting experience preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification; recertification as required.
  • Ability to assess situations and use de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain Routine logs.
  • Ability to make quick, calm decisions in emergencies with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol interior and exterior of the facility to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances, and hazards.
  • Respond to emergencies, alarms, and incidents of aggression.
  • Report irregularities and contact emergency responders as needed.
  • Take leadership during emergency codes and determine if local services are required.
  • Monitor cameras, property, and events; coordinate with responders.

Homewood Ravensview is a private 75-bed mental health, trauma and addiction facility offering evidence-based, medically-led, inpatient services for first responders, military, veterans, adults, and young adults. As a Security Guard, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. The Security Guard’s role is to help provide a safe and secure environment to support the delivery of excellent patient care. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the security and the safety of staff, patients, physicians and others on the site, while also protecting property and information.Availability for days, afternoons and nights are required.

What you'll be doing:

  • Patrol interior and exterior of facility to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • While on patrol, monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances and exits, hazardous material, and additional breaches of security.
  • Respond to varied emergencies such as calls for assistance, fire alarms and incidents of aggression.
  • Report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, emergency situations and contact emergency responders.
  • Respond to all emergencies in person, taking a leadership role under all Emergency Codes.
  • Works to determine the status of any such emergencies and whether or not local emergency services may be required, such as police, fire and ambulance.
  • Monitor situations, cameras, property and events.
  • Utilize two-way radios and computer applications for communicating site activities in a professional manner.
  • Provide up-to-date and accurate verbal and/or written reports on all site activity and incidents that occur.
  • Monitor and screen visitors, preventing unauthorized entry; be confident and composed when resolving disruptions.
  • Enforces Homewood’s smoke-free policy.
  • Ensure the security of the site and the safety of the public, staff and others on site.

What we are looking for:

  • Fully licensed Security Guard in the province of BC – to be renewed every three years
  • Relevant 6 month’s experience with security, police, fire or other security service
  • Ability to work various shifts including day, evening and nights
  • Experience within a hospital setting is preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification; recertification to be completed as required
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations and implement de-escalation techniques
  • Knowledge and experience in handling aggressive behaviours
  • Ability to handle private information with a high amount of discretion
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain routine logs
  • Ability to make immediate decisions, while maintaining composure, in emergency response situations with minimal supervision

Homewood Health promotes a fair and competitive compensation model. Pay rates are tailored to reflect differences in operating environments and job requirements. Compensation is influenced by many factors including compensation principles or approach for a role or job function, organizational tenure, experience, qualifications or premium skills, external competitiveness, internal comparability, geography and work performance. The hourly rate for this role is $27.40 per hour.
