Description

Job Title: Security Guard

Department: Security

Reports To: Security Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Statement of Duties

Provide customer service via telephone and by receiving visitors and guests without continuous supervision. Utilize a moderate degree of independent judgment involving the ability to make decisions based on established routines and procedures. If needed, the supervisor will be available to handle unusual situations. Work duties involve a high degree of accuracy and coordination. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 10:00 am until 6:30 pm with occasional Saturday and Sunday work hours required. Saturday & Sunday work hours will vary.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide varied telephone services quickly and accurately.
  • Telephone key personnel in case of an emergency.
  • Receive, greet, and direct visitors and guests.
  • Contribute to a pleasant, effective, and coordinated work environment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Work at other Focus: HOPE locations as needed.
  • Must turn in a security daily log sheet at the end of each day.
  • Must be able to perform assigned duties at every post (Mobile Unit/Desk Duties/Booth).

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Must have a valid Driver's License (No exceptions).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient in Outlook.
  • Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, and visitors while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Authoritative verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
  • Strong commitment to civil and human rights.
  • High level of oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions.
  • Knowledge of trouble diagnosing procedures and ability to route to technical support.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Security guard training certification is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
  • Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Possible prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
