Job summary

Ciena is seeking a Software Engineer (Security) Intern for a 4-month term starting January 2027 in Alpharetta, GA. You will design, develop, and test features in C/C++ for embedded systems, debug defects, and contribute to the full software lifecycle alongside experienced engineers.

The role emphasizes hands-on software development, problem solving, and collaboration. Exposure to Linux kernel and low-level programming is a plus.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Solid programming skills in C/C++ with a foundational understanding of Python.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Interest in software development and solving technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test new features in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Investigate, debug, and resolve software defects to improve stability and performance.
• Engage in the full software development lifecycle from concept through testing and delivery.
• Develop scripts, test utilities, and automation tools to improve development efficiency.
• Collaborate with software developers, system architects, and verification engineers on software releases.
