Job summary

WHOOP is seeking a Director of Security Engineering & Operations in Boston to lead security engineering and security operations, reporting to the CISO. This executive role shapes strategy, builds a strong team of managers, engineers, and analysts, and drives measurable security outcomes in a fast-moving tech environment.

The leader will guide prevention, detection, incident response, and AI security across identity, cloud, endpoints, data, and enterprise systems, ensuring risk-informed decisions

Qualifications

• 10+ years of information security experience with deep Security Operations.
• 5+ years of people leadership across managers and senior ICs.
• Expertise in detection engineering, SIEM/telemetry, incident response, and security operations.
• Proven ability to drive disciplined execution with roadmaps, metrics, and ownership.
• Experience managing MDR/MSSP or similar partners and holding them accountable.
• Experience securing AI-enabled products and enterprise AI adoption.
• Strong judgment and cross-functional collaboration with senior teams.
• Experience in health tech or sensitive-data environments is a plus.
• Role based in the Boston, MA office; relocation if needed may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead Security Engineering and Security Operations with strategy, priorities, and standards.
• Advance threat-informed detection and response across identity, data, and adversary scenarios.
• Lead security incident readiness, response, and post-incident reviews.
• Guide preventive and detective security controls across cloud, endpoint, and infrastructure.
• Lead AI-enabled security strategy including data handling and model security.
• Optimize security tech and services, balancing build, buy, and external partners.
• Drive portfolio execution with roadmaps, backlogs, metrics, and cadence.
• Coach and develop managers, engineers, and analysts for growth.
• Strengthen collaboration across Product Security, Platform, IT, Legal, and Risk.
• Partner with CISO on planning, hiring, and communicating security posture.
