Job summary

Asana is seeking a Director of Security Engineering to lead and grow our security engineering organization in a high-growth SaaS environment. You will translate security strategy into technical reality, ensuring resilient infrastructure and world-class internal tooling.

This leadership role focuses on people management, mentorship, and measurable security improvements while partnering with Engineering, Product, IT, Legal, and Compliance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in security and software engineering.
• 3+ years of experience directly managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong background in software engineering with ability to participate in design reviews.
• Deep understanding of application security, cloud-native architecture, and identity frameworks (OAuth, OIDC, SAML).
• Hands-on security controls and architecture within AWS or similar cloud environments at scale.
• Balance security requirements with business needs; communicate the rationale behind security decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Security Engineering organization with accountability for people management and mentorship.
• Translate security strategy into technical reality across products and infrastructure.
• Own the security engineering roadmap with data-driven prioritization and risk reduction.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to embed security into designs and workflows.
• Oversee design reviews and guide secure infrastructure and features.
