Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

THE ROLE

Are you interested in developing software for an advanced satellite broadband telecom service? The Security team manages the operational security of the entire constellation. We provide infrastructure to establish secure communications and strong authentication, ensuring confidentiality for our customers and security for our constellation.

This team drives research, development, deployment, and operation of critical security systems for the Kuiper constellation. You will work in a start-up-like culture to develop security-focused software systems and promote a security-first mindset within the organization.

Export Control Requirement

Due to export control laws, candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

We seek a Security Engineer experienced in leading technical discussions, making design decisions, and building large-scale security systems. You will collaborate with a diverse security engineering team to define requirements and establish security best practices.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design software and security systems in collaboration with peer teams and customers.
• Develop software security systems meeting mission criteria.
• Contribute to forming a strong security organization within Project Kuiper.
• Mentor and onboard new team members.
• Utilize AWS and other Amazon technologies to build highly available services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years delivering security software in production.
• 3+ years experience with distributed software in Java, Rust, GoLang, or C/C++.
• 3+ years experience with cloud-native environments.
• 3+ years experience developing for Linux.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of security engineering, system and network security, cryptography, and application security.
• Master’s degree in information security.
• Understanding of current security threats and mitigation strategies.
• Experience leading and mentoring developers.
• Hands-on experience with satellite communications and embedded systems.
