Job summary

Atlassian is seeking a Summer Security Intern in the United States, with work from our Seattle or San Francisco hub. You’ll join a security engineering team, own a scoped project addressing a real security problem, and learn from senior engineers while building tools and automation.

You will gain hands‑on experience with automated testing, vulnerability investigation, and risk prioritization, while applying AI‑assisted development and practical security research in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full‑time in a bachelors or masters degree program and returning to the program after completion, graduating by August 2028.
• Strong programming skills with the ability to write, debug, and test code.
• Basic understanding of how web applications and systems work, plus foundational security concepts.
• Familiarity with AI and large language models, including hands‑on coursework, projects, or work.
• Ability to investigate problems, evaluate information, and clearly communicate findings.
• Demonstrated interest in security through coursework, projects, or prior experience.

Responsibilities

• Own a scoped security engineering project from problem understanding to building, testing, and documenting the solution with mentor guidance.
• Develop tools and automation to help engineers find security weaknesses, investigate findings, or prioritize risks.
• Conduct security research and analyze results to identify weaknesses and distinguish actionable findings from false positives.
• Use AI‑assisted coding and research tools and validate outputs; build AI‑assisted security capabilities when appropriate.
• Collaborate with security and software engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and feedback.
• Demonstrate the solution, explain results and limitations, and prepare it for reuse by others.
