Job summary

Mapbox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Security & Compliance team. You will contribute to, operate, and improve security services across Mapbox’s AWS-based infrastructure, helping engineers build secure-by-default systems.

You’ll perform AWS security reviews, suggest improvements, audit application code with developers, and collaborate with product teams to embed secure-by-default designs. This role may include on-call rotations and requires strong risk assessment skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field.
• 5+ years of experience in product or application security and related software engineering roles.
• Proficiency with AWS services and security best practices.
• Proficiency in a programming language (Python, JavaScript, Node.js or TypeScript).
• Ability to perform risk assessments and implement secure coding practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct AWS security reviews and verify best practices are followed.
• Suggest security improvements and coordinate with production teams to implement them.
• Partner with Lead Security Architect to fix custom security tools.
• Conduct in-depth security reviews of application code with developers.
• Collaborate with internal product teams to embed secure-by-default designs.
• Participate in on-call rotations to keep systems available 24/7.
