Security Engineer (ISSE) Job Description
Polaris is seeking a Security Engineer/Architect to understand and document system designs involving multiple enclaves with varying data protection and classification requirements. The candidate should have knowledge of distributed architectures and cloud-based systems for big data applications. This role is hybrid, based at our customer site in Ft. Belvoir, VA.
Anticipated Salary Range: $120,000 – $190,000. This range is a good faith estimate based on location, responsibilities, and market benchmarks. Final compensation will be determined at the offer stage, considering education, certifications, experience, skills, and internal factors.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Create, review, and edit authorization documentation per federal and DoD policy.
- Understand and implement DoD RMF system accreditation processes.
- Assess operational risks of open source and GOTS/COTS software components using vulnerability management and security scanning tools.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse audiences, facilitate data gathering, and follow established or defensible processes.
- Provide security planning, assessment, risk analysis, and risk management support.
- Recommend system-level security solutions and guide development teams to meet security requirements.
- Support the enforcement of trusted relationships among external systems and architectures.
- Apply IA policies and procedures to design, develop, and implement secure network and enclave environments.
- Interact well with team members and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly; U.S. Citizenship required.
- At least 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree, or 9+ years as an ISSE/security-focused engineer with a Bachelor's, or 13 years with a High School diploma.
- Experience with DoD system accreditation processes (DIACAP, RMF).
- Deep systems engineering knowledge and quick understanding of software/system applications.
- DoD 8570 compliance with IAT Level II (e.g., Security+).
- Experience with DISA STIGs, SRGs, vulnerability management, and automated security scans.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Work is hybrid at Ft. Belvoir, VA, with on-site presence 2–3 days/week; flexibility required.
Preferred Requirements
- CISSP–ISSEP certification highly desired.
