Job summary

Exa, an applied AI lab in San Francisco, is hiring a Security Engineer to design and protect the systems powering our massive-scale web infrastructure.

You will build secure infrastructure, manage cloud security (AWS), IAM, CI/CD security, secrets and key lifecycles, and drive compliance (HIPAA, SOC 2). This role emphasizes hardening, incident readiness, and secure operation as we scale.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in building and maintaining secure infrastructure.
• Familiar with cloud security fundamentals, multi-account AWS, IAM design, secure CI/CD pipelines.
• Expert in secrets management, key management, and certificate lifecycles.
• Experience owning compliance efforts (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).
• Skilled in security hardening, VPNs, dev servers and related tooling.
• Vigilant about vulnerabilities and secure operation with new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement security controls for Exa's web-scale systems.
• Lead incident response, detection, and post-mortem processes.
• Monitor and improve security posture across distributed services and workloads.
