Job summary

Exa is an applied AI lab hiring a Security Engineer to build the protective shield for all systems, including processing web-scale data, indexing hundreds of billions of pages, and training foundational models. You will ensure secure shipping velocity and play a critical role in security across a high-performance infra.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in building and maintaining secure infrastructure.
• Cloud security fundamentals, including multi-account AWS permissions and architectures, IAM design, CI/CD security.
• Fluent in secrets management, key management, and certificate lifecycles (rotation, revocation, automation).
• Experience with compliance efforts such as HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.
• Comfort with security hardening of engineering systems (VPN, development servers, etc.).
• Vigilant about vulnerabilities and abuse with evolving tech (OS-level, AI coding agents).

Responsibilities

• Build secrets management and rotation system across distributed services and GPU clusters without impacting developer velocity
• Build monitoring and alerting for anomalous behavior across APIs, internal services, and customer usage
• Create security incident response playbooks and lead incident handling, from detection to post-mortem
