The client is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to support complex security operations and risk management efforts across critical systems. This role is instrumental in protecting sensitive information and public data by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating cybersecurity threats in both legacy and modern environments.

As a subject matter expert, the Senior Security Engineer will lead efforts in security architecture design, threat detection and response, incident triage, vulnerability management, and secure application development. This individual will operate at the intersection of engineering, operations, and security to elevate the client’s cybersecurity posture in accordance with compliance standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical security lead for the implementation of secure systems across client departments.
  • Perform in-depth security audits, risk analyses, and code reviews to assess application and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
  • Investigate and respond to security alerts, incidents, and anomalies across a variety of security platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Trellix, Carbon Black).
  • Collaborate with DevOps, system administrators, and application developers to integrate security best practices into day-to-day operations.
  • Conduct research on emerging threats, tools, and techniques to proactively strengthen the client's defenses.
  • Develop and recommend enhancements to security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the development of client-wide cybersecurity knowledge and awareness.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS), and secure systems development life cycle (SSDLC).
  • Hands-on experience with security event monitoring, threat intelligence, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools.
  • Proficiency in security testing tools, static/dynamic code analysis, and incident response workflows.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation in languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of secure cloud and hybrid cloud infrastructure is a strong plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience:
  • At least 10 years of professional experience designing and implementing technical security solutions.
  • 1+ years (within the past 3 years) of experience triaging/responding to CrowdStrike alerts.
  • 2+ years (within the past 5 years) of experience working with Trellix.
  • 1+ years (within the past 3 years) using CrowdStrike Carbon Black.
  • 1+ years (within the past 3 years) managing Abnormal Security email compromise alerts and setting up Account Takeover (ATO) protections.
  • 1+ years (within the past 3 years) administering Anxious (tool/platform clarification may be required).
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.
  • Additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP, CEH, OSCP, or GIAC.
  • Government or public sector experience with an understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks (FISMA, HIPAA, CJIS, etc.).
  • Experience working in multi-agency or federated IT environments.
