Security Education Support Professional

We educate over 5,600 students across 11 school buildings, including the Maria Weston Chapman Middle School (grades 6‑8). The Security Education Support Professional supports and carries out responsibilities determined by the building leadership to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, students, and visitors.

Responsible To

The Security Education Support Professional reports directly to the Building Principal and/or Associate Principal, Assistant Principal, or Dean.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher, or
  • At least two years of post‑secondary education equivalent to 48 credit hours from an accredited institution, or
  • Met a rigorous standard on a formal Massachusetts‑endorsed assessment (Parapro or WorkKeys),
  • Security experience preferred.
General Summary

The position is involved with ensuring safety and security to the school, staff, and students. The professional understands boundaries and diplomacy with colleagues, families, and community members and communicates information for or from parents/guardians to the building administrator(s).

Specific Duties
  • Manage admittance of all students and visitors/substitutes.
  • Provide supervision of halls, common areas, lunchrooms, and bathrooms to reduce disruptive behavior.
  • Monitor and accompany students between activities or classes.
  • Supervise student groups to ensure safety.
  • Watch for possible hazards and remove items harmful to students, employees, or visitors.
  • Refer chemical use and other concerns to supervisors in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding student attendance and behavior concerns.
  • Direct traffic before and after school and collaborate with administration on supervision and concerns of parking lots, as assigned.
  • Assist in the search of vehicles and other property including lockers, backpacks, and school buses when requested and supervised by an administrator.
  • Communicate over 2‑way radio with clarity, simplicity, precision, and confidentiality.
  • Apply de‑escalation skills and behavioral safety training (e.g., CPI/Safety Care) as needed.
  • Participate in district‑provided job‑related training.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the building administrator(s).

Working Conditions

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and speaking/ listening; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; use of hands to assist students; response required in emergencies. The environment may include dusty, cold, hot, indoor, and outdoor conditions. Regular interaction with students, staff, and the public is required.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification

Non‑Exempt.

Terms of Employment

183 work days as specified under the provisions of the Weymouth Educators Association (WEA) Unit D Contract. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a CORI background check.
