Responsibilities
We are seeking a collaborative Security Director to oversee the overall security processes of the Related Beal portfolio. This individual is detail oriented and flexible with the ability to learn and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The primary focus for this position is to lead security and oversee the physical safety for Related Beal in Boston, Massachusetts. This individual will be the forward-facing security lead for all engagement with local, state and federal law enforcement and fire safety partners in Boston. The Director of Security will adopt best practices and apply them to daily operations within Related Beal’s assets, and have oversight of any security vendors and special events security. These duties are performed with ethics, moral integrity and honesty, in compliance with all company policies and procedures and applicable government agency statutes. Additionally, the Security Director will foster a collaborative working relationship with all ownership entities, commercial tenants, residents, vendors, and internal Related Beal and Related business partners.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as the main point of contact to the Related Corporate Security Team and act as a liaison between asset managers, general managers, and security vendors to evaluate and handle day-to-day security and safety operations for the portfolio. The role will be based at our Related Beal office at 177 Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts.
- Evaluate deployment and sourcing of security technologies in Related Beal assets. Collaborate with the Related Corporate Security Team and internal departments to ensure security technologies are integrated and aligned with standards.
- Develop a threat-based security posture based on local crime analysis and current threat levels, liaising with federal, city, and state partners in Boston and Massachusetts.
- Participate in regular meetings with asset operation teams and the Corporate Security Team to address security concerns and recommend improvements.
- Evaluate and develop training and SOPs, including Emergency Action Plans, and oversee their implementation and audits. Manage security personnel policies, including hiring, training, and supervision, ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Act as the primary contact for law enforcement inquiries and coordinate responses to security incidents, ensuring business continuity and proper incident reporting, data analysis, and record maintenance.
- Establish and coordinate best practices for special events security, collaborating with asset managers, vendors, and event coordinators.
- Oversee security technology deployment on new projects and upgrades, including CCTV, alarms, and access control systems, ensuring proper data management and security.
- Partner with the Corporate Security Team to vet and manage security vendors, oversee budgets, and evaluate performance, providing mentorship when necessary.
- Coordinate with the Construction Safety Director on safety initiatives and crisis management plans for construction sites and field offices.
Qualifications
- 20+ years in Law Enforcement/Security, with prior law enforcement experience preferred.
- At least 10+ years in a supervisory or command role.
- Strong law enforcement contacts and experience in Boston, Massachusetts.
- Knowledge of security systems such as Access Control, CCTV, Command Centers, Visitor Management, Fire Operations.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with C-suite and operational staff.
- Understanding of physical security, guard force management, crisis management, and business continuity.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degrees and training are a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
