Job summary

Harvard Protection Services in New York is seeking a Director of Security to provide strategic leadership across a defined portfolio of accounts, ensuring safe environments, top‑tier service delivery, and strong client satisfaction.

The role leads 24/7 operations, manages hiring, training, budgets, incident investigations, and risk management, and coordinates with HR, Finance, and Legal to drive continuous improvement and regulatory compliance. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years in private security, law enforcement, or military service with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Fire Life Safety systems is required.
  • State-mandated security officer license required; CPP/PSP certifications are a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of security operations, risk management, and access control technologies.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.

Responsibilities

  • 24/7 On-Call Operational Position.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of regional or portfolio-wide security operations.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, policies, and performance standards to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management of all site security personnel.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients and represent the company in security-related matters.
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure contract compliance and operational excellence.
  • Develop and monitor operational budgets, labor forecasting, and cost controls.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, responding promptly to concerns, incidents, and service changes.
  • Lead emergency response planning and oversee incident reporting and investigations.
  • Monitor KPIs and lead continuous improvement initiatives across assigned accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, and Legal teams on escalated matters.
  • Prepare operational reports and brief senior leadership on key trends and risk areas.

Job Summary:

The Security - Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for all security operations across a defined portfolio of accounts. This role is accountable for service delivery, client satisfaction, contract compliance, personnel performance, and financial results. The Director of Security ensures a safe and secure environment while leading a high-performing, client-focused security team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in private security, law enforcement, or military service, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Fire Life Safety systems is required.
  • State-mandated security officer license required; additional certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP) are a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of security operations, risk management, and access control technologies.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Strong risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to manage large teams across multiple locations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, incident reporting software, and security technologies.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended or irregular hours as needed.
