Air Force Civilian Service seeks a Security Controls Assessor / Cybersecurity Specialist (GS-2210-14) to advise the CIO on information security, ensure compliance with FISMA, PA, and CNSS standards, and lead cybersecurity oversight for Air Force programs. Position located at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, with security clearance and policy stewardship responsibilities.

This full-time role requires U.S. citizenship, Top Secret/SCI clearance, and potential polygraph testing.

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for THREE (3) Full-Time Security Controls Assessor / Cybersecurity Specialist (GS-2210-14) to work at the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force; Administrative Assistant; Security, Special Program Oversight and Information Protection (SAF/AAZ), Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.

Moving expenses may be paid.

Salary: $143,913 – $187,093 per year based on experience.

Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.

Qualifications/Requirements

In this position, you will serve as an Information Technology (IT) Subject Matter Expert (SME) and IT Manager. In this role, you will advise the Chief Information Officer (CIO) on information security and cybersecurity practices, procedures, policies, plans, and guidance. This includes aligning operations with Automated Information Systems (AIS), the Clinger-Cohen Act (CCA), the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), the Privacy Act (PA), and other federal cybersecurity mandates. As a Senior Advisor, you will provide critical cybersecurity counsel to senior Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Air Force (DAF) leadership on high-impact, national-scope IT programs. You will evaluate DoD, federal, and commercial technologies to ensure information assurance and cybersecurity compliance across the Air Force. These efforts directly support the service components of the Global Information Grid (GIG) and pioneer new prototype IT capabilities for the DoD. Additionally, you will serve as the primary security liaison between the Air Force Special Access Program Central Office (AF SAPCO), the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Cyber Effects Operations (SAF/CN), and senior defense leaders. Your expertise will guide IT program management—spanning business cases, performance metrics, systems architecture, standards, certification and accreditation, and interoperability. You will actively shape future Air Force policy by drafting and defending new cybersecurity proposals. Finally, you will assist the Air Force Director of Security, Special Program Oversight and Information Protection (AF Dir SPO/IP) in managing the agency’s IT systems. Operating under Presidential Executive Orders and military security regulations, you will serve as the leading Air Force security specialist, ensuring all security personnel across the department are trained and equipped to protect critical assets.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Top Secret” security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
• Incumbent may be subject to Counterintelligence (CI) Scope Polygraph testing.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Cyberspace Workforce Framework Foundational qualification within 9 months of assignment; resident qualifications within 12 months of assignment.

Required Core Competencies

• Legislative & Acquisition Compliance: Expert knowledge of the policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning acquisition management process and initiatives, Clinger-Cohen Act (CCA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and Privacy Act (PA).
• Risk Management Framework (RMF): Expert knowledge of DoD Risk Management Framework requirements, to include the Committee on National Security Systems Instructions (CNSSI) 1253 and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53 Security Control Catalog.
• Cybersecurity Governance: Expert knowledge of cybersecurity management and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
• Enterprise Systems & Acquisition: Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interlace with, and/or influence the systems acquisition process and cybersecurity (formerly information assurance) management processes.
