Summary Description

Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader on the more difficult or unusual situations.

Physical Demands: Sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods walking and standing, and to complete security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.

Special Requirements: Required to work flexible hours, including weekends, as assigned by the principal/security team leader to provide maximum security coverage. Occasionally work overtime. Must wear the designated security uniforms.

Job Specific Information

The wage range for this position is between $23.68 - $33.72/hour based on experience with MCPS. For benefit details, visit: Benefit Information. Candidates must have completed the screening interview with the Dept. School Safety & Security. Preference given to bilingual English/Spanish candidates with knowledge of safety procedures, behavior management techniques, investigative procedures, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
• College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields is advantageous.
• Experience involving student or personnel safety and welfare, investigation, or security roles, preferably in educational settings.
• Possession of a valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent.
• First aid and CPR certification required.
