Skillset / Experience:

INSPYR Solutions seeks an individual with expertise in Security Hardening + Ransomware recovery. Focusing on Backup & Storage Security, the contractor will be responsible for leading a focused security hardening initiative across all backup and storage platforms within the client environment. This role will evaluate current configurations, identify gaps, and ensure that all critical security features such as immutability, multi-factor authentication, and privileged access controls are properly enabled and enforced. Additionally, the contractor will be tasked with developing "Phase 0 of a ransomware recovery strategy, including key requirements, architectural recommendations, and prioritized remediation actions.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Assess and baseline the current state of all backup and storage platforms across on-prem and cloud environments, including technologies such as [Veeam, Rubrik, Cohesity, NetApp, Dell EMC, etc.].
  • Verify and document the use (or lack) of security features, including, but not limited to:
    • Immutability / write-once-read-many (WORM) protections
    • MFA / 2-person approval workflows for destructive operations (e.g., deletions, configuration changes)
    • Airgap or logically isolated backups
    • Encryption at rest and in transit
    • Audit logging and alerting backup-related activities
  • Identify any misconfigurations, exposed interfaces, or missing controls that could be exploited in a ransomware event.
  • Propose immediate hardening actions for each identified gap, including technical controls, process changes, and policy updates.
  • Define the foundation of a ransomware recovery strategy (Phase 0), including:
    • Recovery objectives and architectural recommendations
    • Required roles and responsibilities
    • Backup validation and testing standards
    • Integration points with cybersecurity incident response
  • Deliver a comprehensive assessment report, including prioritized remediation recommendations, future-state architecture, and timeline for Phase 1 implementation planning.
  • Deliver a ransomware recovery playbook for defined critical assets to the business based on defined RPO/RTO.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to validate the feasibility of recommendations and support remediation scoping.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise backup, storage, and disaster recovery platforms.
  • Strong understanding of ransomware tactics, techniques, and countermeasures in backup and storage contexts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and industry frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, and ISO 27001.
  • Experience developing or supporting ransomware recovery or cyber resilience programs.
  • Ability to deliver clear documentation and communicate technical findings to both technical and executive stakeholders.
