Job summary

Suffield Public Schools is seeking a Security and Safety Specialist to assist in maintaining safety for students, staff and visitors. The role reports to the Director of Facilities and supports enforcing district safety policies at the building level.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with security-related experience or training, and strong interpersonal skills to engage with students, staff, parents and the community.

• Supports collaboration with Suffield Police Department.
• Attends safety training and school/district events to provide security support.
• Maintains professional relationships with students, staff and families.

Job Goal: The Security and Safety Specialist assist in maintaining the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors in the assigned school. Position supports the Director of Facilities and Administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools at the building level.

Qualifications: Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent with some experience or training in a security related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skill and abilities. Individual must exhibit interpersonal skills which relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

Reports to: Director of Facilities

Compensation: $27.01 per hour

Work Year: School year, 32.5 hours per week exclusive of a 30-minute lunch.

Performance Responsibilities:The Security and Safety Specialist has the following duties as listed below and other duties and responsibilities as shall be assigned by the Director of Facilities.

• Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school building, grounds and parking lots
• Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles or activities
• Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations
• Supervises and directs pupil movement
• Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department or other appropriate authority of security or emergency situations
• Assists with fire drill and other emergency building evacuations
• Maintains security records, logs and reports
• Utilizes and disseminates data analytics to further enhance to the safety and security of our schools, as well as, intervening with student and staff concerns
• Establishes working relationships with all school administration
• Supports all collaborative efforts between the Suffield Public Schools and the Suffield Police Department
• Attends and provides professional development to Suffield Public Schools faculty and staff on safety protocols and procedures
• Attends school and district events to provide security and safety support
• Maintains professional relationships with students, staff, and families to safeguard and support the well-being of students
• All other safety and security duties as assigned by school and district administration
