Security and Safety Officer - Varied Shifts, Per Diem

Primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting preventative security and safety patrols throughout buildings and grounds.
- Providing security for hospital and clinic patients, visitors, and staff, and safeguarding property by responding promptly to requests and emergency codes.
- Leading and directing staff during crisis situations to control disruptive behavior.
- Maintaining alertness for unusual or suspicious activities and unauthorized persons, notifying supervisors or police as appropriate.
- Inspecting equipment such as radios, fire extinguishers, panic alarms, AED units, and emergency phones for proper operation and reporting issues.
- Reporting potential fire or safety hazards and participating in safety/emergency drills and tests.
- Documenting incidents and activities through detailed incident reports and logs.
- Following up on investigations as needed.
- Managing vehicular traffic and assisting with traffic control during snow removal operations.
- Keeping emergency vehicle lanes clear and maintaining radio communication with the switchboard.
- Assisting with transporting deceased persons to the Morgue and liaising with law enforcement officers.
- Collaborating with the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety regarding activities and issues.
Additional duties:
- Collaborating with the Engineering Department on snow plowing, landscaping, and contractor communications.
- Occasionally shoveling snow and spreading ice melt as directed.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 2-3 years of experience in healthcare, security, military, law enforcement, corrections, or Fire/EMS preferred.
Skills and knowledge required:
- Ability to remain calm under stress and provide leadership during emergencies.
- Effective communication skills, including appropriate people skills and report writing.
- Ability to gather facts, deescalate situations, and physically manage disruptive behaviors.
- Physical ability to lift patients, walk quickly, stand for extended periods, and withstand adverse weather conditions.
