Job Description – Security Officer

JOB TITLE – Security Officer

REPORTS TO – School Director

CLASSIFICATION – Non-Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors at the Academy of Creative Technologies – Antelope Valley. This position plays a key role in maintaining campus safety, responding to incidents, and supporting the overall well‑being of the school community. The Security Officer works under the supervision of the School Director and collaborates with administrators, staff, and local safety agencies as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor school grounds, buildings, and entry points to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Enforce school safety policies, visitor procedures, and access control measures.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, and disturbances, de‑escalating situations when possible and notifying appropriate personnel or authorities.
  • Conduct routine patrols and inspections to identify and report potential safety hazards or security risks.
  • Support the supervision of student arrival, dismissal, lunch, and transitions to ensure orderly and safe movement.
  • Collaborate with school staff to maintain a positive school climate, building trust and rapport with students and families.
  • Document incidents, prepare clear written reports, and maintain accurate security logs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing emergency preparedness drills (fire, lockdown, earthquake, etc.).
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency services as directed by school leadership.
  • Provide support during school events, ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to strengthen safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in security, law enforcement, or emergency response preferred.
  • Prior experience in school security, law enforcement, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of security procedures, emergency response protocols, and conflict de‑escalation techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Excellent observation and reporting skills with attention to detail.
  • Physically able to perform duties such as standing, walking, or responding quickly in emergencies.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire).
  • Familiarity with California school safety regulations and procedures is desirable.
