Job summary

RTX is seeking a Secure System Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in Cedar Rapids, IA. You’ll join the Embedded Product Cybersecurity Engineering team to support SSDLC, fuzzing, threat modeling, and security testing across product development.

The role emphasizes Python scripting, Linux familiarity, and knowledge of network protocols; onsite in Cedar Rapids, U.S. citizenship required.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree and enrolled through internship/co-op.
• Minimum of 60 credit hours by start of internship/co-op.
• Solid understanding of fundamental cybersecurity principles.
• High proficiency in Python programming.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
• Basic knowledge of network protocols and secure architectures.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing and executing fuzzing and penetration tests to evaluate attack surface robustness.
• Develop threat models and data flow diagrams to ensure data is properly isolated in transit and at rest.
• Implement mandatory access controls through the development of SELinux policies.
• Participate in code reviews to identify weaknesses in security implementations.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments on proposed and in-service systems.

The Embedded Product Cybersecurity Engineering team is seeking a Secure System Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. Our shared services team supports product development across the company wherever a customer has a security requirement, or when a system will be exposed to cyber threats through connectivity or operational use over public networks. Members of our team help develop cyber-resilient systems by supporting design and implementation teams to ensure a Secure System Development Lifecycle (SSDLC). We also develop tools and testing techniques for integration and verification, helping identify residual defects in design or implementation that could negatively impact the confidentiality, availability, or integrity of a system.

This is an onsite position. Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident

• Assist with developing and executing fuzzing and penetration tests to evaluate attack surface robustness.
• Develop threat models and data flow diagrams to ensure data is properly isolated in transit and at rest.

• Participate in code reviews to identify weaknesses in the implementation of security functions.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments on proposed and in-service systems.
• Develop and improve tools and scripts that enhance the overall efficacy of the Embedded Product Cybersecurity team.
