Job Description

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor, in the Academic Clinician, Clinician Educator, or tenure track, to serve as Section Chief for the Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP). In partnership with the other Section Chiefs in the Division, the BHIP Section Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful hospital-based child and adolescent psychiatry programs in the nation. Applicants must have outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research, including an M.D. or equivalent degree, board certification in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and at least 8 years of experience in healthcare systems administration, hospital operations & practice management in a large, academic medical center or similarly complex environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the section in partnership with medical and clinical directors.
• Direct clinical and instructional/educational activities of the section.
• Promote research interests among faculty.
• Direct specialty training programs for residents and fellows.
• Recruit faculty and clinicians, and recommend positions to Division Chief(s).
• Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with section leaders and direct reports.
• Ensure dissemination of information to faculty and staff.
• Encourage faculty and clinician participation in section and department activities.
• Exercise fiscal responsibility in day-to-day activities and collaborate with Administrative Director on budget review.

Essential Functions

• Provides leadership, management, and motivation to the Section.
• Directs clinical activities of the Section.
• Directs instructional/educational activities of the Section.
• Promotes research interest among the faculty.
• Directs the specialty training programs for residents and fellows.
• Recruits faculty and clinicians, making recommendations to the Division Chief(s).
• Knowledgeable of all CHOP University policies and procedures applicable to the Department.
• Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with Section leaders and direct reports.
• Responsible for disseminating information to faculty and staff in the Section.
• Encourages faculty and clinician participation in Section and Department activities.
• Exercises fiscal responsibility in the day-to-day activities of the Section.
• In collaboration with the Administrative Director, routinely reviews budgets, expenditures, professional charges, receipts, and Section activities.

Salary Range

$36,279.00 – $678,760.00 annually. Salary ranges are shown for full‑time jobs. If you are working part‑time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
