Job summary

Sargent Rehabilitation Center in Warwick, RI seeks a qualified Special Education Teacher for secondary grades. Qualifications

• Rhode Island certification as a Special Educator required.
• Three years of experience as a special education teacher preferred.
• Experience with children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges.
• Experience with developmental disabilities and autism.
• Experience with RI Alternate Assessments and other state assessments.
• Experience collaborating with Teaching Assistants.
• Knowledge of positive behavior support systems.
• Evidence of family engagement with students.
• Knowledge of state and federal special education eligibility criteria.
• Knowledge of special education laws and IEP processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration with staff, admins, and parents.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, respectful, effective learning environment for students' learning and social-emotional/behavioral needs.
• Deliver core academic instruction aligned to standards with remediation and extension as needed.
• Design learning opportunities with academic, experiential, or service components.
• Collaborate with families, faculty, administrators and outside treatment teams.
• Write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Model and implement interventions with other teachers.
• Redesign learning environments to support success.
• Be culturally sensitive in social interactions.
• Use varied instructional techniques to address learning challenges.
• Teach and reinforce prosocial skills and behaviors.
• Support adult users in implementing interventions and coaching staff.
• Collect and analyze data for regulatory reports to inform decisions.
• Maintain student records and confidentiality.
• Support evidence-based practices for improving outcomes for all students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
