Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary Special Education Teacher to join our team at Tawas Area High School, with a preferred additional ELA endorsement. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This full-time position requires collaboration with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social success for all students.


Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring alignment with state and federal guidelines.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings, focusing on academic, social, and emotional development.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies and IEPs as needed to promote student growth.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and communication with parents and other stakeholders.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and fosters a sense of belonging.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies.

  • Collaborate with related service providers, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, to support student needs.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.

  • Engage in school-wide initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education for secondary education.

  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, as well as knowledge of special education laws and regulations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction and use various teaching methodologies to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage student records and documentation effectively.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
