Job summary

Norristown Area School District is seeking a Reading Specialist for the East Norriton Middle School in Norristown, PA, for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on supporting reading development, pulling small groups as needed, and collaborating with teachers and administrators.

The position requires PA Reading Specialist certification, 3 years teaching experience, and clearances; a Master's degree is preferred and bilingual Spanish is valued.

Qualifications

• PA Reading Specialists certification required
• 3 years of teaching experience required
• Masters degree preferred
• Current Act 34, Act 151 and FBI Fingerprint clearances
• Bilingual Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and staff in coordinating activities for the regular developmental reading program
• Develop procedures to place individual students in reading groups
• Familiarize teachers with grade level reading skills and strategies
• Recommend appropriate reading materials for classroom instruction
• Conduct classroom visitations and provide non-evaluative feedback on reading instruction
• Keep staff updated on current reading research and materials
• Assist in training and evaluation of the reading program
• Suggest improvements to the district-wide reading program
• Coordinate and revise the District reading curriculum
• Advise administration on teachers’ professional development needs
• Facilitate professional development as requested
• Provide input on reading budget needs
• Monitor reading assessments of students
• Assist Title I identification and data procedures
• Be a resource for teachers, parents, and staff
• Follow federal, state, local regulations for Title I programs
• Strive to maintain professional competence
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning
