As Secondary Principal at Breakthrough Charter School, your typical week would include the following, and so much more:
Uphold Breakthrough’s school-wide cultural vision
  • Identify highly effective instructional curriculum and efficient schedule, in collaboration with the Head of School.
  • Manage student behavior and promote the social emotional development of students.
  • Model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and support teachers to do the same.
  • Drive fidelity of school culture systems across the school, including behavior management, attendance, and more.
Use data to drive decision‑making in support of students
  • Analyze school wide data in order to design responsive student interventions.
  • Devise and monitor high‑impact support plans for struggling students.
  • Track other useful academic data; support teachers in communicating progress to students, teachers and parents.
  • Analyze school wide culture data and make adjustments to ensure fidelity to common picture.
Demonstrate exceptional teacher leadership
  • Directly coach and develop a portfolio of teachers.
  • Observe lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback to teachers.
  • Collaborate with grade/subject teams to plan units, lessons and assessments; regularly share feedback.
  • Provide frameworks and supports for teachers and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Model outstanding instruction for teachers.
Facilitate excellent professional development around school culture
  • Coordinate and manage creative, inspiring professional development sessions in line with school goals and priorities every Wednesday and as needed.
  • Direct the interim assessment process to ensure teachers are using current data to drive instruction; facilitate regular, meaningful interim assessment data debriefs with teachers.
Serve as an active member of the school leadership team
  • Participate in regular leadership team meetings.
  • Serve as the administrative representative at Breakthrough Family and Friends (BFF) meetings.
  • Support leading and designing staff training at the start and end of school year and on professional development days.
  • Work closely with the school leadership team to support efforts in character development and positive school culture.
  • Assist teacher leaders (e.g., coaches, grade team leaders) in developing leadership skills.
  • Model the Breakthrough professional and core values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community.

  • Track record of exemplary instructional and classroom management skills, including meeting high standards for holistic student achievement.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Excellent communication skills with diverse constituents (teachers, parents, children, board members); clear writer, facilitator and public speaker.
  • Proven ability to proactively lead by example, effectively manage adults, and seek out feedback.
  • Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow‑through, sense of humor, willingness to respond positively to feedback and a “roll‑up‑my‑sleeves” attitude.
  • Mastery of and enthusiasm for subject matter.
Educational Background and Work Experience
  • Administrative certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4‑year institution; Master’s Degree required.
  • At least 2 years of administrative experience leading and managing adults.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience with a record of high student achievement.
