Job summary

Morenci Area Schools seeks a dedicated Mathematics teacher to support student learning and uphold district standards. You will deliver district-approved curriculum, employ varied instructional strategies, and regularly assess student progress to inform instruction.

The ideal candidate holds a Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement for secondary 6-12 Mathematics, demonstrates strong communication with students, families, and staff, and commits to creating an inclusive classroom

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required for teaching position.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate is required.
  • Endorsement for secondary 6-12 Mathematics is required.
  • Strong knowledge of subject concepts and ability to teach them effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support learning.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Teach curriculum through direct and inquiry-based instruction.
  • Assess student learning using multiple methods (discussion, projects, tests, etc.).
  • Communicate frequently with parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with peers and administrators in planning/evaluating the program.
  • Represent Morenci Area Schools positively in the community.

Summary

Teachers develop supportive relationships with all of their students, define clear outcomes for student learning and communicate them clearly to their students, implement a range of research-based instructional and assessment strategies as needed to ensure quality learning for all students, and use assessment data to inform their instruction. Regular communication with parents, peers, district personnel, and administration is essential.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid and current teaching certificate for the State of Michigan.
  • State teaching certification with endorsement secondary 6-12 Mathematics
  • Strong knowledge of subject concepts and ability to teach them effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment
Preferred Skills:
  • Skilled at designing learning environments that promote a student’s ability to achieve at their highest potential.
  • Experience using data to develop lesson plans and instructional groups
  • Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Outstanding computer skills, professional appearance, and regular attendance at school-sponsored events and activities.
  • Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with PBIS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support students’ focus on learning
  • Provide developmentally appropriate individualized, small-group, and whole-class instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Teach District-approved curriculum through both direct instruction and inquiry-based instruction
  • Assess student learning through a variety of evaluation methods such as discussion, projects, performance assessments, tests, demonstrations
  • Communicate frequently with parents and guardians
  • Participate collaboratively with peers and administrators in planning and evaluating the instructional program
  • Represent Morenci Area Schools in a positive manner in the community
  • Participate in continual professional growth opportunities which are aligned with district priorities
  • Demonstrate understanding of the substance of their subjects, including both facts and organizing ideas and instruction
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
  • Articulate student learning objectives and reasons for importance, provide timely, accurate feedback to students, and engage students in self-assessment
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse family and cultural backgrounds and interest in students
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervises classroom, students, and volunteers
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports or professional correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, administrators, and the general public

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, and practical applications.

Physical Demands

Frequently required to stand and talk or hear while sometimes walking and sitting. The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 40 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, or getting up and down from the floor are also required.
