Job Description
The Secondary Machine Operator ensures machinery is set up, works properly and conforms with and can produce materials that conform with company and customer quality standards.
Duties/Responsibilities
The main job functions and responsibilities of the Secondary Machine Operator includes but not limited to the following:
- Operates production machinery in accordance with prints and specifications. Assigned machines may include lathes, grinders, mills and similar equipment.
- Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments.
- Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
- Measures finished pieces with precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure they meet order specifications.
- Removes defective products or materials, placing them in specified areas for handling.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required
High School/GED
Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to follow written instructions, diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to operate highly technical machinery and basic hand tools.
- Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
- Strong math, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to two years of experience operating machinery in manufacturing environment.
- Two to three years of experience operating lathes, mills and grinders preferred.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working in a light industrial/manufacturing environment. (noise, smells)
- Prolonged periods of working on feet, using tools and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and lifting.
- Must be able to lift up to (50) pounds at times
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
- Must have manual dexterity necessary to operate the machinery.
