Role Description

The Secondary Level Reading Specialist is responsible for providing targeted reading instruction and support to students in secondary grades at North Penn School District. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Lansdale, PA. This is a long-term substitute position. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing student reading levels, analyzing literacy data, and developing individualized and small-group intervention plans aligned with curriculum standards. The Reading Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate evidence-based literacy strategies across content areas, and to support differentiated instruction for diverse learners. Additional tasks include modeling effective reading instruction, coaching staff in literacy practices, communicating progress to families, and contributing to school-wide literacy initiatives and professional development.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in differentiated instruction, inclusive practices, and supporting multilingual learners and students with diverse needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, record-keeping, and organizational abilities.
• Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, or a related field preferred; appropriate state certification as a Reading Specialist or equivalent required.
• Experience teaching or providing reading support at the middle or high school level; familiarity with current research-based literacy programs and technologies.
