Job summary

Tucker High School, part of the DeKalb County School District, is seeking a SPED Paraprofessional to support teachers and students in meeting educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.

The ideal candidate will implement, deliver, and promote high academic expectations, work collaboratively with team members, and communicate effectively in writing and speech.

Qualifications

• Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college courses with a GPA 2.0+ from an accredited college or university.
• High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Georgia GACE Paraprofessional Assessment is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide small group and/or individualized instruction to students according to lesson plans.
• Assist teachers with daily classroom management to maintain an effective learning environment.
• Assist with assessment of student performance (standardized and non-standardized tests) and other recordkeeping tasks.
• Assist with development and organization of instructional materials and ensure materials are available before instructional segments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The primary responsibility is to implement, deliver and promote high academic expectations to all students. The ideal candidate must work collaboratively with team members and must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Functions

• In accordance with lesson plans developed by the teacher, provides small group and/or individualized instruction to students.
• Assists teachers with daily classroom management activities designed to ensure that students demonstrate behavior that is conducive to an effective learning environment.
• Assists teachers with assessment of student performance (standardized and non-standardized testing) and other recordkeeping tasks.
• Assists teachers with the development and organization of appropriate instructional materials for use with students and ensures the availability of these materials prior to scheduled instructional segments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

• Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college courses completed with GPA 2.0 or higher from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university is required.

• High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Paraprofessional Assessment is required.

• Must obtain valid Professional Standards Commission approved paraprofessional certificate.
