Job summary

United Engines in Oklahoma City is seeking a Second Shift Welder I to perform structural and pipe welding on barges and boats. Located at 10000 NW 2nd, Oklahoma City, OK 73127, you will weld steel plate and pipe, grind surfaces, and prepare joints in a shipyard setting.

You must have strong attention to detail, be a team player, and comply with safety programs. A minimum of five years in a shipyard environment is preferred; bilingual ability is a plus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for welding by grinding barge and boat repair areas.
• Complete passes to produce full penetration welds on cargo tanks and repair areas.
• Operate welding and grinding equipment using vacuums, pumps, and compressors.
• Weld steel plate/pipe to make repairs or modifications as directed by supervision.
• Safely use hand, power, and cutting tools and maintain a safe work environment.
• Consult with foreman on installation, sequence, and time estimates.
• Tack weld clips and brackets as needed and finish welds per spec.
• Work in harsh environments including heat, cold, rain, and confined spaces.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

UE Manufacturing is Now Hiring a Second Shift Welder I located at 10000 NW 2nd, Oklahoma City, OK 73127. The Shipyard Welder is responsible for performing structural/pipe Welding assignments. Work safe and maintain a safe working environment, notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues. You will recieve a shift differntial while working second shift.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for welding by grinding barge and boat repair and fabrication areas, cargo tanks, and internal compartments.
• Complete the necessary number of passes to produce full penetration welds on specialty components and areas, internal compartments, cargo tanks, external surface areas, and repair areas for barges and boats.
• Use vacuum pumps, air pumps, compressors, blowers, meters, hoses, and other tools to operate welding and grinding equipment and complete welding and maintenance tasks.
• Uses welding equipment as directed by a foreman or supervisor to weld steel plate/pipe to make the required repairs, fabrication and/or modifications.
• Safely and efficiently use various hand, power and cutting tools.
• Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation.
• Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torches.
• May tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to safely use essential equipment as welding machines, grinders, hand and power tools. Strong attention to detail.

Education/Experience

• Equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
• The ability to effectively speak clearly so others can understand; Bilingual preferred.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a shipyard environment.

Physical Activities & Requirements

Ability to work in harsh environments such as heat, cold, rain, ice, etc. inside and outside.

Able to work inside confined spaces, heights, and operate equipment safely.

The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
