Job summary

Merit Manufacturing is seeking a Second Shift Production Supervisor to lead the production-floor on the 2nd shift in Warren, MI. You’ll guide Line Leads, assign staffing, and ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery while coaching a skilled team.

Qualifications

• Two years minimum of manufacturing supervision or Line Lead experience.

• HS diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or manufacturing certification preferred.
• Experience in contract manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, fill‑and‑finish, cosmetics, or personal‑care manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure line-clearance procedures are followed before startups.
• Confirm put-away counts, tags, scrap records, and waste documentation.
• Ensure quality inspections are completed and procedures followed.
• Escalate concerns promptly to leadership.
• Coordinate with Engineering to address equipment downtime.
• Communicate updates to leadership team.
• Maintain safe, clean, efficient production areas.
• Reinforce policies and procedures.
• Support daily goals with strong leadership and follow-through.

Mission Statement

The Second Shift Production Supervisor leads daily production-floor operations during the second shift, ensuring employees are properly positioned, production lines start efficiently, and manufacturing goals are achieved.

This role directly supports and develops Line Leads and production employees while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, productivity, documentation, and accountability.

The Second Shift Production Supervisor is the quarterback of the production floor—coordinating people, responding to problems, removing operational roadblocks, and keeping the shift focused on delivering safe, high-quality products on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all production-floor activities during the second shift.
• Assign Line Leads and production employees to lines based on production priorities.
• Adjust staffing and labor assignments throughout the shift as production needs change.
• Oversee production-line startups and ensure teams are prepared for efficient operation.
• Train, mentor, coach, and support Line Leads.
• Communicate employee performance, conduct, and attendance concerns to the Production Manager.
• Participate in evaluating new production employees based on demonstrated capability and performance.
• Confirm employee attendance and maintain appropriate staffing levels throughout the shift.
• Verify the accuracy and completion of Production Fill Records, Line Lead checklists, and other required production documentation.
• Ensure proper line-clearance procedures are followed before startups and during production transitions.
• Confirm that put‑away counts, product tags, scrap records, and waste documentation are complete and accurate.
• Ensure required quality inspections are completed and production teams follow all quality procedures.
• Escalate personnel, equipment, downtime, and production concerns promptly.
• Coordinate with Engineering to address equipment problems and production downtime.
• Communicate important updates and unresolved concerns to the appropriate leadership team.
• Maintain safe, organized, clean, and efficient production areas.
• Reinforce company policies, safety requirements, operating procedures, and performance expectations.
• Support daily production goals through strong floor leadership, effective communication, and consistent follow‑through.

Qualifications

• Strong production‑floor leadership and employee‑management skills.
• Ability to coach employees, communicate expectations, and hold team members accountable.

• Ability to manage multiple production lines and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong judgment and the ability to lift operational concerns appropriately.
• Comfortable working with Production, Quality, Engineering, Warehouse, Planning, and Human Resources.
• Ability to learn and use Merit IQ, Production Fill Records, Line Lead checklists, whiteboards, and production‑scheduling systems.

Experience

• A minimum of two years of manufacturing supervision or Line Lead experience is required.
• Experience leading production employees and managing shift‑level staffing is required.
• Contract manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, fill‑and‑finish, cosmetics, or personal‑care manufacturing experience is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate degree or relevant manufacturing certification is preferred but not required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, twist, and perform repetitive movements.
• Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work in a loud, active manufacturing environment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow all facility safety requirements.
• Availability to work overtime and weekends based on production demands.
