Qualifications

• Valid Tennessee teaching license required.
• Endorsement for the subject area if required.
• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
• Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for class and shows evidence of preparation when requested by the Principal or other school official.
• Prepares to teach a course of study, assigns lessons, and corrects homework papers corresponding to the course of study.
• Prepares for assigned classes using appropriate materials to meet the needs of the individual student.
• Uses audiovisual/technological aids and other materials to supplement the presentation.
• Organizes and assigns lessons.
• Uses a variety of evaluation strategies and records results when appropriate.
• Administers tests to evaluate progress, records results, and informs parents of student progress.
• Works with teachers to modify for students with learning differences as needed.
• Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Encourages students to maintain appropriate standards of behavior.
• Maintains order in the classroom and on school grounds.
• Enforces school rules, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Keeps attendance, grade records, and permanent records as required by the school system and the State Dept of Education.
• Meets with parents to plan objectives and goals to improve student progress.
• Directs instructional assistants as assigned.
• Meets professional learning requirements.
• Prepares teaching outlines to align with the curriculum.
• Presents subject matter using varied teaching methods and materials.
• Keeps records as required by the school system.
• Keeps parents informed of academic and social progress.
• Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and refers to appropriate personnel.
• Reports to Guidance Counselor/Principal/Law Enforcement if welfare at risk.
