Job summary

University of Rochester is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join the OR team at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY. You will prepare instruments, assist the surgical team, and support intraoperative care for ophthalmology procedures in an inpatient setting.

This is a full-time, rotating shift role from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM with on-call duties. Candidates must have an active CST license or meet NYS requirements to be grandfathered.

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

GENERAL PURPOSE:
  • Provides technical knowledge in preparing instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and assists the surgical team from the scrub position during an operation.
  • Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases.
  • Maintains sterile technique, safe handling of sharps and performance of surgical counts as per hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under direction of a registered nurse.
  • Serves as a patient advocate.
  • This role works in the inpatient setting.
  • FT positions available.
  • Unit operations are from 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 8 or 10-hour shifts available, on call for E/N, holidays, & weekends.
  • Provides technical knowledge in the preparation of instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Assists surgeons in providing intraoperative care to surgical ophthalmology patients of all ages.
  • Candidates must possess effective communication skills and demonstrate the ability to participate in all necessary activities of the perioperative team to ensure safe patient care.
  • Candidates must also demonstrate a high degree of interpersonal, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Candidates should also enjoy working as part of a dynamic team in a high quality, high efficiency environment.
  • Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist with a license in good standing or meet NYS requirements to be grandfathered into Public Health Law 2824.
