Job summary

The Second Assistant Engineer position on the SRIV supports the First Assistant Engineer aboard a DP2 offshore rock-installation vessel operated by MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME ACADEMY. You will manage mechanical and electrical systems, including the DP network and rock-installation equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations on offshore projects.

Applicants should hold a USCG license for Second Assistant Engineer, a valid medical certificate, TWIC, and a US passport, with 12–24 months of DP

Qualifications

• USCG license for Second Assistant Engineer (or higher) on Motor Vessels of Unlimited HP
• DP vessel experience in offshore industry
• Ability to Troubleshoot and repair shipboard equipment
• Knowledge of shipboard mechanical and electrical systems

Responsibilities

• Oversee all mechanical and electrical equipment onboard, including DP systems and rock-installation gear.
• Troubleshoot, interpret manuals and schematics, and repair equipment as needed.
• Supervise watch-standing, maintenance, and repair of vessel machinery.
• Adhere to safety and pollution prevention policies and participate in JSA development with junior crew.
• Ensure operations align with MARPOL and hull integrity standards.

Job description

The opportunity:

The Second Assistant Engineer reports to the First Assistant Engineer on the subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV). The SRIV is a DP2 specialized OSV equipped to carry varying types/grades of rock from quarries/port out to install as scour protection on project sites for offshore wind farms, overpower/communication cables, or pipelines.

28/28 rotations

Expected through December/January

Responsibilities and functions include:

• Responsible for all the mechanical and electrical equipment onboard the vessel, from standard marine systems to rock installation mission equipment.
• Must possess analytical skills to troubleshoot, operate, and repair assigned ship equipment and to interpret technical manuals, schematics, reports, etc.
• Oversee day-to-day operations in the Engine room.
• Must follow all Company safety and pollution prevention policies and procedures as well as take an active part in the development and improvement of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) with junior crew.
• Supervise the watch standing, maintenance and repair of shipboard equipment, including DP systems, propulsion systems, diesel engines, pumps, winches, hydraulic systems, refrigeration equipment, electrical equipment, hotel systems, compressors and machinery for pollution prevention defined in the MARPOL convention.

Requirements:

• Must possess a U.S. Coast Guard license for Second Assistant Engineer (or higher) on Motor Vessels of Unlimited Horsepower.
• Must possess a valid medical certificate.
• Must possess a TWIC card.
• Must possess a United States Passport.
• Must have a minimum of 12 months experience on DP vessels in the offshore industry; preference is 24 months of experience on DP2 vessels.
