ORGANIZATION:
Rainier Scholars is a comprehensive academic enrichment program that supports students of color over a 12-year journey - from 5th grade to college graduation. We seek to serve those who are most under-represented on college campuses and have the greatest number of barriers to achieving a college education: 85% qualify as low-income, 90% would be the first in their family to earn a college degree. Our program offers rigorous academics, leadership development and personalized support for scholars, providing access to educational pathways and myriad opportunities previously unimagined.
With a budget size of $10 million, a staff team of 50+ full-time employees and 675+ scholars and families whom we currently serve in Seattle and Tacoma, Rainier Scholars has established a positive brand for our unwavering commitment to education, proven success rate, and sustainable impact. We grow new generations of diverse college graduates, career professionals, and community leaders.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Rainier Scholars seeks responsible, highly motivated college-bound students of color to serve as Student Advisors to the new and incoming cohort. Student Advisors play integral support roles for students during the 14-month Academic Enrichment Phase, the first step in the 12-year journey of a Rainier Scholar. Essentially, they coach, mentor, and guide students along the academic process as well as help facilitate the student’s development of meaningful relationships within the Rainier Scholars community. This work occurs in both one-on-one and small group settings.
Rainier Scholars’ 14-month academic program begins with a six-and-a-half-week summer program. In addition, advisors are required to participate in all orientation events and faculty preparation days. The Academic Enrichment Phase then continues throughout the school year on Wednesday afternoons (on Zoom) and all day, in person on Saturdays. Student Advisors are needed only on Saturdays during the school year. The 14-month Academic Enrichment Phase completes with a second six-and-a-half-week summer session the following summer. Summer classes are held at The Bush School while school year classes are held at South Shore K-8 School.
