Description

Finishers are responsible for applying finishes to walls, ceilings, and trim accessories using hand and mechanical tools that meet specified finishing standards. They must maintain production efficiency and quality to complete projects successfully and exceed customer expectations.

Finishers apply drywall taping compound to seams between drywall panels and to nail and screw indentations. They work on new installations, repairs, and upgrades of existing walls. Additionally, they install and finish metal, plastic, and aluminum trims, applying the correct number of coats of compound per the required finish level, and sand areas after each coat.

Finishers may perform high-detail finishes such as level 5 or textured surfaces.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reading and interpreting drawings
  • Checking surfaces to ensure joints are tight, aligned, and properly fastened without damaging the drywall surface
  • Establishing work schedules and workflow
  • Organizing and verifying materials
  • Cleaning and repairing tools
  • Mixing joint compounds
  • Applying fill and finish coats
  • Finishing inside and outside corners
  • Performing dry and vacuum sanding
  • Skim coating over drywall, concrete, or related materials
  • Spraying finish compound
  • Understanding the 5 levels and methods of drywall finishing

Finishers are responsible for the quality and timely completion of their work, typically reporting to a foreman or lead. They must work safely and maintain a safe work environment. Precise adherence to specified finish levels and standards is essential.

Physically, finishers must be able to climb scaffolds and ladders, handle and manipulate objects, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
