Job summary

Marymount School of New York seeks a seasoned college counselor to serve as a leave replacement during the second semester. The candidate will guide juniors and seniors and their families through the college process with a strategic, organized, student-centered approach.

The role involves managing a caseload, developing college lists, planning timelines, and collaborating with the College Counseling Office to provide thoughtful guidance and program support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s and/or counseling degree preferred
• Experience in an independent secondary school preferred
• Demonstrated success counseling students through selective college admissions
• Deep knowledge of U.S. colleges and universities; familiarity with international universities and UCAS is a plus

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of approximately 20-25 juniors and seniors.
• Provide strategic guidance about the college search, timelines, essays, interviews, and admissions decisions.
• Develop trusted partnerships with students and parents through proactive communication and guidance.
• Teach and plan the second-semester college guidance curriculum for juniors.
• Review applications and supporting materials for accuracy and timeliness; ensure deadlines are met.
• Assist with planning and implementing college counseling programs and information sessions.
• Maintain accurate student records, data, and office documentation with strong organization.
• Maintain expertise in college admissions trends, financial aid, and higher education developments.
