Job summary

Target is hiring a Yard Driver in Topeka, KS to move tractors and trailers safely in the yard and to support on-time guest order fulfillment. The role requires back-up skills, radio communication with Dispatch, and adherence to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required for state employment.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs occasionally and 30 lbs frequently.

• Operate tractors/trailers in the yard and back up trailers to docks and yard locations.
• Deliver safe, efficient trailer moves and maintain radio communication with Dispatch.
• Perform routine vehicle safety inspections and follow safety procedures.

Starting Hourly Rate $25.50 USD per hour. You may also earn additional compensation in the form of a shift differential, ranging from $2.00 to $3.50 per hour, based on eligibility. As a Yard Driver, you will drive and operate tractors/trailers in the yard, in a safe and efficient manner, while making trailer moves to doors and locations in the yard. You must be able to skillfully back up trailers into all types of dock and yard locations, as well as hook and unhook trailers. You will need to maintain communication with Dispatch, Yard Coordinators and Operation Managers via the radio. This work also requires attention to detail and a focus on safety procedures and protocols, including performance of routine safety inspections of vehicles. In this role, it is also vital to complete job tasks assigned accurately and on time.

About You

• Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license for state employed
• Maintains positive and respectful attitude while working independently and in a team environment
• Able to lift and carry materials/equipment up to 30 lbs frequently and able to lift and carry equipment up to 60 lbs infrequently
• Able to work independently, quickly and safely
• Ability to problem solve and elevate when needed
• Knowledge of the functions of tractors and trailers and their systems
• Able to work in all types of weather conditions
• Able to operate all equipment safely
• Able to read trailer information such as trailer numbers, safety procedures and protocols
• Basic math skills
• Ability to operate computer systems with minimal direction after receiving training
• CDL is preferred, but not required
