Job summary

Montgomery Parks is seeking a Seasonal Tree Care Volunteer Program Coordinator to protect and enhance urban forest resources and strengthen community stewardship in Montgomery County Parks. The role works with partners and volunteers on tree care initiatives and special events in the Southern Management Area.

You will coordinate recruitment, scheduling, training, and on-site education, while managing records and data.

Qualifications

• Interest in environmental education, forestry, parks, recreation, or community engagement.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple tasks.
• Experience supporting volunteer programs, outdoor projects, or community events.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse communities and volunteers.
• Spanish or other language skills are a plus.
• Valid driver's license required. Experience safely operating small trucks and other work-related vehicles preferred; CDL license not required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead the Volunteer Tree Care Program, including volunteer recruitment, scheduling, training, on-site education, and stewardship activities.
• Manage volunteer projects, special events, and outreach initiatives, particularly in Equity Areas and underserved communities, in collaboration with Chesapeake Bay Trust and Parks staff.
• Support Forestry and Park Operations tree projects by coordinating site preparation, evaluating work locations, preparing supplies and equipment, and overseeing volunteer engagement.
• Maintain accurate volunteer, tree care, and project records in Samaritan, Tree Keepers, and other databases; collect, track, analyze, and report program data.
• Monitor and document budget-related activities with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Provide professional customer service and maintain effective communication with volunteers, community partners, staff, and external organizations.
• Perform work both in the office and field settings, including outdoor activities for up to five hours daily and walking 1-2 miles depending on project needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
