Job summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior seeks seasonal tractor operators in California to maintain grounds, medians, and roadways. The typical season runs Apr–Oct, with variability due to weather and funding.

Duties include operating tractors and attached equipment, performing hydraulic and mechanical connections, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is outdoors in extreme temperatures and may require on-call evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
• Background investigation required.
• Selectee must have valid driver’s license and may be required to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Operate farm type tractors and attached equipment to maintain grounds and roads and medians.
• Make multiple hydraulic and mechanical connections between towed/attached equipment and the tractor.
• Work outdoors in extreme temperatures and lift up to 50 pounds; sites include open fields, parks, and roadways.
• May be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
